My Everyday Makeup Routine
Back in high school and early college when I was *always* doing the most, I didn't understand the concept of an everyday makeup routine. Why would I only do my makeup one way and not have it perfectly coordinate with my look for the day? Oh, how the mighty have fallen...
Anyway, this is my go-to makeup routine, because I've learned some things in my early 20s:
- I value sleep more than almost anything in this world, but I also want to feel good about the face I'm putting out in to the world.
- I am naturally beautiful and unless I am feeling extra sassy or going to a special event, simple makeup is perfect for going into work, etc.
- I don't always budget my "getting ready" time well (see first bullet point for the most frequent reason) so I've got this down to 10 minutes.
Let's begin shall we? After I finish my skincare routine, my first step is to apply foundation.
Right now, I am starting with an illuminating primer from ELF. I then mix Tarte's Double Duty and Maybelline's FitME! foundations. The Tarte foundation is about 1 shade too light to apply all over my face, so I put it on the areas of my face that I want to pop (my under eye, my T-zone and my chin). I then apply the Maybelline foundation on my cheeks and other areas I want coverage.
Depending on the level of humidity or the state of my skin, I either us a sponge or blend everything together with a flat brush. I wish I knew which kind of brush I use (or any of the brushes I use everyday for that matter), but I got this Sigma brush kit on clearance from HauteLook years ago!
My next step is to bronze/a light facial contour. I use a small angle brush to first lightly bronze my forehead, down on the sides of my face to start carving out my cheekbones, and then on the sides of my nose for a touch of a nose contour. I then carve out my cheekbones even more with Tarte's Tarteist Glow Pro palette's sculpting powder.
Once I am done contouring, it's time to add a natural flush back to my face. I go through different phases for the blush I use, but my tried and true is-- you guessed it--Tarte's Amazonian Clay powder blush in "feisty".
Then, it's time to glow, baby! There are fewer makeup products that bring me such joy as an A1 highlight. I go back to the Glow Pro palette and mix "strobe" with "stunner" for dewey, shimmery, glowy goodness. I apply that on my cheekbones, then making a C shape, I follow it up on to the brow bone.
I also place highlighter in the inner-corners of my eyes and take the remaining highlighter on my brush and dust it across the center of my eyelid for an extra glow.
I then set my undereye and T-zone with translucent powder and spray my whole face with setting spray. (Gonna be transparent here and say I don't super love the ones I am using right now so I will link you to some of my favorites here and here).
And, that's it! The "fresh face fantasy" as Bretman Rock calls it is complete.
